The Israel Prison Service is the national detention authority of Israel, operating 32 prisons across Israel, and responsible for the 22,000 prisoners in its facilities.
One of the main goals of the Ministry of Public Security, expressed in the Minster's policy and vision, is to operate a national detention authority which is both effective and secure. Part of this goal is to provide proper incarceration conditions to prisoners and detainees, and to create a platform from which the prisoners can be integrated into society.
This section contains information on the Israel Prison Service, including specialized prisons, such as prisons for women, prisons for the mentally ill, and the Ofek Prison for minors, as well as information on rehabilitation programs.
The site also offers information on prison alternatives, for example, the electronic monitoring system; as well as material on the Israel Prison Service's special units, such as Nachshon – a special Prison Services unit in responsible for accompanying prisoners and ensuring security in special circumstances; Dror – the central detective unit; and Masada – a national operational unit.
