National Crime Prevention Programs

Crime Prevention Programs
As part of the Ministry of Public Security's work within the local authorities in the field of the civil effort, the ministry carries out several programs, social efforts and processes to prevent crime and violence; all in the purpose of enhancing the sense of security and personal security among the citizens and residents of Israel, and to encourage the foundation of a none-violent, safe and law abiding society, which promotes dialogue, mutual respect and tolerance.
The ministry continues operating through its establishments; through the programs it promotes throughout the country and the local authorities, within which it operates; in an attempt to diminish crime and violence and increase the quality of life.
The national "City without Violence" program operates within 84 of the 255 local authorities participating in this program all throughout the country. The National Anti-Drugs and Alcohol Authority operates within 74 local authorities; the Metzilah Community and Society Program is distributed within 65 local authorities and 20 youth boarding schools. The municipal policing program (combined enforcement and monitoring alignments) will be implemented, in its first stage, in 13 local authorities.
In this section, you can read about several main programs for the prevention of violence and crime, operated by the ministry in an attempt to minimize violence and anti-social behavior among children, teens and adults.

The Boarding Schools' "Police Studies for Teens" Program
The police studies program in the youth boarding schools is a communal-social project, aimed at providing boarding school students with a high school style academic program, adapted to boarding school circumstances. This program incorporates studies, understanding, and internalization of issues related to the rule of the law, community safety, and active citizenship.

Parents' Patrols in the Communities
The "Parents' Patrol" is a group of volunteering parents from the community, who patrol the community, making their presence felt at all the local teen "hangout" spots during the nights, throughout the weekends, and during school breaks. The aim of the parents' patrols' activity is to minimize violence and anti-social behavior among teens in the community; provide solutions for teens during emergencies; detect at-risk teens and refer them to treatment; increase parental awareness of the children's extracurricular activity; and pool all the enforcement and prevention resources in order to increase the residents' well-being and their personal security.

Preventing Violence and Racism in Sports
This is the central issue in the Israeli Government and the sports organizations' work programs.
The ministry's Metzilah division developed models for "minimizing violence and racism on the football fields, by nurturing and enforcing the supporters". The division operated programs in the communities, aimed at prevention of violence and racism in sports as a whole and in the field of football specifically.

The "Rohe": Control and Monitoring Alignment
As part of the civil effort taking place in the local authorizes, surveillance cameras are being installed in the communities, and connected to a control and monitoring center, in an attempt to increase the residents' sense of security and diminish the phenomena of violence, vandalism, and destruction of property within the communities.

Safe Online Use
The Ministry of Public Security, via the Metzilah division and the "City without Violence" program, operates to increase social awareness of the dangers embedded in online use, and to provide tools and tips for coping with online violence and promote proper online conduct.
