Fighting Drug and Alcohol Consumption

The Ministry of Public Security overseas the agencies and programs aimed at enhancing the personal safety of the citizens of Israel, and promotes legislation to that end as well. A large part of that goal is combating one of the major sources of the threat against personal safety: drugs and alcohol.

The Ministry's principal operational arm in the battle against drugs and alcohol is the Israel Anti-Drug and Alcohol Authority (IADA).

Drugs and alcohol are key factors in violence, vandalism and crime. The Israel Police plays an integral part in law enforcement regarding drugs and alcohol, while the Israel Prison Service is responsible for rehabilitation.

The Ministry's Community and Crime Prevention Division, Mezila, as well as its national program – City Without Violence, operate programs aimed at reducing violence and crime, which includes programs combating dangerous use of alcohol and drugs.
